    The sounds and “words” which we explore on this EP are often built upon a made-up language, with a focus on syllabic rhythm and articulation. Quite often, the listener may wonder who is who; at certain points, both voices seamlessly blur into a rich and singular sound source (e.g. Low Kuu). At other times, Savolainen and Svoboda each feature their own distinctive voices, also incorporating the double bass as a third group member on the odd occasion.

    Sen Jälkeen Kun

    The debut album, “Sen jälkeen kun”, explores themes of growth and the intrinsic need for connection. It ultimately took shape as a soundtrack to a movie that doesn’t exist (yet).

    ”At times it can be as pungent as a sea buckthorn or sting like a nettle, but it can also feel as fresh and soft as the air in the tranquil of a summer night.”

    “As well as loving to express myself through melodies, I find writing and playing with words quite natural and meaningful. This is something we also take into account in our compositions. The dynamically flowing soundscapes naturally carved space for us to explore the emotions and storyline lyrically as well. Sometimes compositions find their natural place as fully instrumental, but sometimes wordplay with the composition allows a path to dig deeper into the story.”

    The album was recorded at Mutka studios, the duo’s own creative space in a mid-century wooden house located in Jyväskylä, Finland. The piano and drums were set up facing each other, fostering a deeper connection between the players. The naturally imperfect and lively acoustics of the space contributed unique characteristics to the sound of the album.

    Each track originated from open, improvised jams between the keys and drums by the warmth of the fireplace and was later refined to its final form.

    The duo’s debut album also features talented session musicians Manuel Trabucco on saxophone, Laurence Wilkins on trumpet and Miguel Vargas on flute.

    Upstream

    Multi-instrumentalist Roope & saxophonist Henri are on a mission to explore, understand, and tap into the cosmic flow of free musical expression. They met at art school back in 2014, where they began their initial sessions in the school cellar. After graduation, their journey included a hiatus and a fortunate reunion, ultimately leading to recording music together from 2019 to 2023. With their debut release, the ensemble’s evolving line-up is ready to play collectively improvised creative music.

    Mount

    The musicians gathered on 29.12.2023, after Christmas, from Helsinki, Turku and Tampere to Tahmela´s Villa, Tampere. The session was recorded full live. The whole group was in the same room all at once improvising and reacting with each other. The session was produced and engineered by Jarno Alho. All compositions by Tahmela Six. The heart of the album is without a question title track Mount, but side two turns the other cheek of the group for the listener´s to dismay. This is a full world and excursion to go through.
